Meet John

Ever wonder what would happen if you had a cauldron of enthusiasm at a slow simmer and you added Mr. Rogers, Chuck Yeager, an Uzi and an eye of newt? You might make a Jon Bisson. This man came up through the US Air Force and flew everything they had, sometimes starting the turbines with shotgun shells cuz he couldn’t be bothered to wait for the auxiliary power unit while stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He flew for the major airlines, then bounced all around the Bahamas in single engine Cessnas. This man fills his days. We were lucky enough to hear him talk about sailing 30 foot seas between Alaska and Japan. Buckle up and make sure the belt is snug.

Matt and Bicycles

Matt starts on a bicycle trek into the unknown, and ends up at a Phish after party.

Meet Matt

As Summer gives way to Fall, the days shorten, some leaves turn colors and kids head back to school. UVM, like a lot of colleges, holds events for incoming freshman. It’s a way for new students to make friends while immersed in the culture of the school. Matt Kropke signed up for a bike trip that changed his life.

Kropke joined us to talk about two bike trips, changing his major and moving to Alaska. The events covered are all BCP (before cell phones). The second bike ride could be called, “The night of the return of the Megaphone.” Phish fans will appreciate that we never charge a Fee. Enjoy the ride.

He loves Godzilla and piña coladas but he’s not that into yoga. Mr. Costello has bar-backed in the Big Easy, painted houses and joined couples in matrimony. We talked about some of that but mostly, Willie told us about trains, what they haul and people who still hitch rides on them. Hobo culture is alive and well. All aboard.
